As a part of our mission to uplift and share Hindi culture, we’re delighted to feature snapshots from our recent Diwali celebration, where students, teachers, and families came together to honor this beautiful festival of lights. The festivities were filled with joy, laughter, traditional music, and colorful décor, capturing the spirit of Diwali and the unity of our school community — and sharing a glimpes of the cultural immersion available through MBK Hindi’s learning programs.

PLACEMENT TESTS

New students planning to join at level higher than Hindi 1 must take a placement test to show their readiness for that level. Students are tested in areas of writing skills, reading fluency, listening comprehension, conversational skills, vocabulary and grammar for a given level.

Placement Test for Entrance to CR_Hindi 2

Topics Covered

This test encompasses vocabulary and grammar covered in Units 1-4 in Beginner Hindi by Joshua Pien (Ch 1- 22)

Test Outline for the Placement Test for Entrance to CR_Hindi 2

Q1 — 15-20 phrases for translation from English to Hindi – This tests the spellings, vocabulary, pluralization of nouns, using appropriate adjectives, and modification of nouns in singular and plural oblique forms. (Grammar concepts covered in Units 1 & 2)

Q2 — Sentence Translation – Tests the grammar and vocabulary covered in units 1-4 in Pien’s book with focus and emphasis on respect for 3rd person by pluralizing the pronouns, rules for has/have, appropriate use of the adjectives and verb conjugations.

Q3 — Translation of specific verbs

Q4 — Numbers (up to thousand)

Q5 — Reading Fluency & Comprehension

Placement Test for Entrance to CR_Hindi 3

Topics Covered

Placement Test for Entrance to CR_Hindi 3 – This test encompasses vocabulary and grammar covered in units 1-8 in Beginner Hindi by Joshua Pien (Ch 1- 41)

Q1 – Open-ended conversation for Making a booking for a hotel room or train ticket – Be able to ask the appropriate questions to complete the task.

Q2 – 15-20 phrases for translation from English to Hindi – This tests the spellings, vocabulary, pluralization of nouns, using appropriate adjectives, and modification of nouns in singular and plural oblique forms. (Grammar concepts covered in Units 1 & 2, but vocabulary can be from any unit in Pien’s book)

Q3 – Sentence Translation – Tests the grammar and vocabulary, and expression of some concepts that are not always a literal translation. Example ‘bad cold’ should translate to ‘सख़्त ज़ुक़ाम’ and not ‘बुरी सर्दी’। These are expressions covered in units 5 & 6. Sentence structures are taken from all different units for verb modifications.

Q4 – Tests student’s knowledge of numbers in Hindi. Students should be able to write numbers in words and numerical form.

Q5 – Verb modifications for a specific tense form, gender and number. Example – लेना – Past perfect tense of the verb – feminine plural form. EX: The boys took three books from the library.

Q6 – Creative Writing – Open ended question. Grading is done based on the depth in writing, spellings and grammar.

Topics Covered

Placement Test for Entrance to CR_Hindi 4 – Curriculum for Hindi 3 covers Geography of India, Cuisines of India, Noteworthy figures of India (Abdul Kalam, Tagore, C.V. Raman, Srikanth Bolla, Sudha Chandran, Sports Champions – Geeta and Babita), Mythological Stories of India, thought provoking stories like ‘prayshchit’, ‘kaki’, ‘ek hare hue neta ka interview’, ‘Pritoria jate hue’ from Intermediate Hindi Reader by Usha Jain.

Test Outline for the Placement Test for Entrance to CR_Hindi 4

Tests the grammar concepts covered in CR_Hindi 1 & 2, and knowledge of history, geography, cuisines of India and some well known Indian people outlined above.
